Hey Creative Tech People!
I’d like to introduce Dayboard - a project to create physical gauges that represent digital data.
What is it?
A dashboard of physical gauges that update in real time with data on the internet. See the weather, your spending, days since you’ve been to the gym, and anything else to help you disconnect from your phone and improve your life.
Where We Are & Where We’re Going
Since starting the dayboard project, here’s what’s happened.
We’ve had 8 million total views across all platforms
We have created an initial printable prototype
We’ve built an app to power the board
We took the Dayboard to WebSummit in Vancouver
We’ve secured an investment to bring this project to life
We’ve hired our first software engineer
That’s amazing! So what’s next?
We are selling 10 prototypes to help define the vision (see below)
We are launching a kickstarter mid summer
We’re building a build-it-yourself guide for tinkerers
We are building out data integrations
How can you get involved?
Buy A Prototype (Selling only 10)
We are selling 10 fully assembled prototypes to early supporters of the project at its current costs - $50 USD a piece. These are prototypes, and we’re looking for people who want to help give us feedback before we launch the kickstarter. If this is the kind of thing that interests you, and you’re in the USA or Canada, send us an email at info@thedayboard.com and we can chat!
Product Feedback
Thousands of you commented on what gauges you’d like to see built. We need your feedback on what data sources to add, and how you’d actually use a gauge like this in your home.
Build Your Own
If you’re a builder like me and have a bit of electronics and 3D printing experience, I’d recommend building your own. We are currently finishing up a guide on how to do it with all the supplies needed, but I have already put the 3D printing files (STL) up on my patreon if you’d like to get started.
Product Direction
Here are the general directions and vibes that we’re feeling for dayboard.
Fully Customizable
You should be able to display any data you want on your board, and change it at any time. This means swappable face plates, and an easy way to switch which gauge does what.
Buy Or DIY
For those that don’t want to build something themselves, we plan on offering a purchasable version - plug and play. For the tinkerers, STL files you can print yourself and an instruction guide on how to build it, including open sourced firmware.
Simple > Complex
The idea of Dayboard is to disconnect from your phone, but before you can do that it needs to be configured - so we built a web app to do this. The web app allows you to sign up, register your device, and connect various types of integrations, so you can set your dayboad to the data you want, without having to write a line of code.
That’s all folks! Thanks for being a part of the project. As always, hit me up if you have any questions or suggestions - ryder@rydercalmdown.com
